AmeriRad Radiology Solutions is pleased to announce a partnership with Mecha Health. Through this partnership, AmeriRad is deploying Mecha XR, an AI foundation model for X-ray studies, in an investigational capacity.

Designed specifically for radiology, Mecha XR analyzes X-ray images and generates a structured preliminary report that integrates directly into our PowerScribe 360 workflow before the radiologist begins interpretation. Every examination is then carefully reviewed and finalized by a board-certified radiologist, keeping the physician responsible for all clinical decisions.

Whilst Mecha XR is not autonomous or intended to be used as a diagnostic tool, it is designed to serve as a true clinical force multiplier — improving workflow efficiency, report consistency, and turnaround time while preserving the expertise, judgment, and accountability that only physicians provide.

This investigational deployment represents the first milestone in AmeriRad's long-term vision of responsibly integrating next-generation AI foundation models into everyday clinical practice. As our collaboration with Mecha Health continues to evolve, we look forward to expanding these capabilities across additional imaging modalities and delivering innovative AI-assisted reads to our current and future clients.

What Makes Mecha XR Different?

Unlike conventional AI tools that focus on isolated detection tasks or simple automation, Mecha XR is built on a radiology-specific foundation model designed to analyze medical images and generate clinically meaningful preliminary reports that integrate directly into the radiologist's existing workflow. The goal isn't to replace physician expertise, but to enhance it; allowing radiologists to spend less time on repetitive tasks and more time applying their clinical judgment where it matters most.

By combining advanced image understanding with seamless workflow integration, Mecha XR represents a new generation of AI designed to work with radiologists, not around them.

Medical Images In, Complete Reports Out

Most imaging AI returns a probability score or a bounding box, leaving the radiologist to translate that output into language. Mecha XR was trained to produce the artifact radiology actually runs on: a full, structured narrative report. The model reads the study end to end and drafts findings and impression sections in the phrasing conventions radiologists already use, so the draft can be edited rather than rewritten.

  • Report-level output — findings and impression as connected prose, not isolated labels.
  • Sub-second inference — the draft is waiting in the worklist before the study is opened.
  • Evidence-linked findings — statements can be traced back to the region of the image that produced them.
  • Workflow-native delivery — the draft lands in PowerScribe 360, not in a separate portal.

How Mecha XR Works, Step by Step

The path from patient to signed report is short and fully supervised. Five steps describe the entire lifecycle of an AI-assisted study at AmeriRad:

  • 1. Patient — a patient presents and receives care at the facility.
  • 2. Digital X-ray — the image is acquired and sent securely to PACS.
  • 3. Mecha XR analyzes — the AI foundation model reads the study.
  • 4. Preliminary report — a structured draft report is generated in seconds.
  • 5. Physician review — a board-certified radiologist reviews, edits if needed, and signs the final report.

Seamlessly Integrated Into Your Workflow

The integration chain is PACS → Mecha XR → PowerScribe 360. Images arrive securely in PACS, the AI engine analyzes and understands the examination, and the preliminary report is waiting for review inside PowerScribe 360. No workflow disruption, no extra clicks, no separate portal to log into — just intelligent assistance in the tools our radiologists already use.

  • Faster turnaround — reduce TAT and improve patient flow.
  • Physician in control — every report is reviewed and approved by a board-certified radiologist.
  • Increased efficiency — radiologists focus on what matters most: clinical expertise and care.

Put simply: medical images in, clinical intelligence out, radiologist approved. AI first, physician final.

How It Fits Into the AmeriRad Read

The sequence is deliberately conservative. A study arrives, Mecha XR generates the preliminary draft, and that draft is attached to the case in PowerScribe 360. The radiologist opens the images first, forms an independent impression, and then uses the draft as a structured starting point for dictation. Nothing is released to the referring provider until a board-certified radiologist has reviewed, corrected, and signed the report.

That ordering matters: the model accelerates documentation, not diagnosis. Anchoring bias is a real risk with AI-assisted reading, and our protocol is built so the physician's read leads and the draft follows.

Governance and Investigational Status

  • Mecha XR is deployed in an investigational capacity and is not used as a stand-alone diagnostic device.
  • One hundred percent of studies are reviewed and finalized by a board-certified radiologist.
  • Clinical responsibility and final sign-off remain entirely with the physician.
  • Draft accuracy, turnaround time, and edit rates are monitored continuously as part of our QA program.
  • All processing follows AmeriRad's existing HIPAA and data-security controls.

What We Are Measuring

Because this is an investigational deployment, success is defined in operational terms rather than diagnostic ones. We are tracking turnaround time from study arrival to signed report, the volume of edits radiologists make to each draft, consistency of report structure across readers, and radiologist-reported workload on high-volume X-ray shifts. Those measurements will determine how — and how quickly — we extend the model to other modalities.

Looking Ahead

X-ray is the highest-volume modality in most facilities, which makes it the right place to prove out AI-assisted reporting. As the collaboration with Mecha Health matures, we plan to evaluate the same approach across CT, ultrasound, and mammography workflows, always with a physician in the loop.
